Frake achieved her position in GATE by demonstrating two qualities: astonishing capability coupled with immense flexibility. At her best in situations where there are no rules, she is equally comfortable in the depths of a known but novel engineering problem, of which the GATE Cascade Research Facility abounds. She understands that the world can sometimes be reduced to a series of equations, but that it just as frequently refuses to submit to simple analysis. Her genius - and her reputation for arriving at workable answers before anyone else - lies in recognizing that in both cases, there is usually only one path of action. Whether that means replacing a gasket or blowing up a particle accelerator, it's clear what needs to happen.
