Like many young New Zealanders in search of warmth and a little adventure, Jimmy moved to Sydney in 1992, where he landed a job at a little-known research facility in the Outback. He should have read the fine print. Like similar service jobs on large isolated mines, his new role came with long periods on site, and little contact with the outside world, but fantastic pay. Jimmy was familiar with being far from civilization and having few friends. Everything else the job involved, less so.
