Fishing in Abiotic Factor gives food and XP. What bites depends on the water you fish in. The tables below come from the game files and list every fish, zone and catch chance.

That’s 14 fish. The files hold 33 fish entries in total, because rare versions and zone variants each get their own row.

The odds in each zone

Most zones follow the same pattern: about 78% for the local fish, about 16% for its rare version, and a 1.6% chance each for Portal Fish, rare Portal Fish, IS-0098 and rare IS-0098.

Torii has the best odds for rare Portal Fish, 16.9%. Antejuice Pools split evenly between Antefish and Portal Fish. Eel-Infested Waters appears twice in the files with different tables, so we’ve left it out rather than give you blended numbers.

Bait and rare fish

Every rare fish entry is tied to a bait tag. Bait recipes make 4 at a time at the Crafting Bench:

BaitRecipe
Antefish Bait4 Anteverse Wheat, 2 Bio Scrap
Portal Fish Bait1 Raw Exor Heart, 2 Tomato
Radfish Bait2 Canned Peas, 1 Hydrochloric Acid
Bait 984 Leyak Essence, 1 Greyeb
Darkwater Bait4 Murkweed, 2 Rotten Food
Moon Fish Bait1 Slushie, 1 Skip
Gutfish Eel Bait2 Snag Vine Seed, 1 Night Essence
Frigid Bait4 Tech Scrap, 1 Honey, 2 Snowball
Silky Bait2 Aloe, 2 Beeswax
Penumbra Bait2 Shadowberries, 2 Black Gunk

Gem Crab Bait has no recipe. The Larva trader sells it for 1 Powdered Crystal (see the traders guide). Chordfish and Inkfish have their own bait tags too, but no bait item in the files carries either tag.

Boom Bait sounds like it belongs here, but it doesn’t. It’s a device that beeps to attract enemies and then explodes.
